R.I.P. Summer, and others.

Fri Aug 21, 2009, 4:11 PM
Well, summer is almost over, and honestly, I couldn't be more ready for the end of it to come. It's been a long summer, that's for sure XD; I'm really glad I saw my friends this summer, though ;w; I also got quite a bit of art done. Maybe I'll update my DA soon.

Anyway. I'm mainly making this journal as a slight vent and a reminder for myself, so you don't have to read past this. In fact, to most people, it's probably... sort of stupid. Anyway. For my birthday last year, my aunt got me four BEAUTIFUL butterfly koi. Wasabi, Speed Racer, Parkay, and Mr. T. They were wonderful additions to my tank, which at the time only housed two small kohaku koi, Tang and Sunkist. I later added Ginger, a giant golden orange butterfly koi. Wasabi and Ginger were my favorites (and the largest! Over a foot long :> ). I even trained Wasabi to swim into my hand while he was in the tank, and he would let me pet him and everything. He was a super kick ass awesome fish.

At the beginning of summer, I moved them into our new pond out back. They adjusted quickly and absolutely loved it. Of course, I was plenty worried, since we do have herons, hawks, fox, raccoons, and plenty other animals around that would love a crunchy koi snack. However, no harm came to them. Once we saw that they were getting along well enough, we went out and bought four more butterfly koi; Bok Choy, Jinrin, Optimus, and Vader. However, Optimus didn't adjust, and died a week later. (insert Transformers 2 'OPTIMUSSSSSSS' scream here)

Not long after that, Wasabi had babies (I thought he was a boy! I still call 'her' a he.). It was awesome; thousands of little koi. I was excited because not only did it mean my fish were healthy, but it meant I wouldn't have to spend forty dollars for a new one.

Everything was going well. The fish were all healthy, and it looked like they would be spawning again soon. I thought of moving Wasabi and Ginger back into the tank in my room though, because I really missed being able to watch them up close. However, I left them there, and then went on a trip. I really wish I had moved them.

I returned from the trip last night. I went straight to my pond to check on my fish. Something had gone wrong, and half of the water was gone. All my fish, however, were alive and well, and swimming around happily. I told my mum that the pond needed refilling. She had refilled it before, so I assumed everything would be fine. However, we were all very tired after a long day traveling, and so she forgot to treat the water when she added it.

I woke up to the news that Wasabi, Ginger, Speed Racer, Bok Choy, and Jinrin were dead. Tang and Vader were no where to be found. Now normally, I wouldn't be upset over the death of a fish. But man... my fish weren't just little goldfish you go out and buy, then flush down the toilet three days later when they die. Koi are beautiful, intelligent, and extremely long living fish. Up to eighty years, with some said to have lived over two hundred. And I had planned on keeping them that long. Not to mention that I've put a lot into them. Some people have model planes, some have ball joint dolls. I had my koi fish. And yes; I honestly prefer them to cats and dogs.

So, understandably, I was pretty upset. But the day has slowly gotten a bit better. My aunt, who has over 300 butterfly koi, has a slightly overpopulated pond, and has offered to give me ten of her butterfly koi. At first I didn't want to accept them, but Parkay and Mr. T. now are pretty lonely, and I want them to have fish their size to swim with. (they always stuck in a pack) Also, I managed to find Tang, which was a big relief, as I've had him the longest. Then, to top things off, I thought Wasabi had only had four babies that survived over the months. However, I found four more today. One of them, speckled like Speed Racer. One, a golden-orange butterfly like Ginger. And another, a little white one, with one red spot on his head, just like Wasabi ;;w;;

I'm really looking forward to the babies growing up and surviving so I can give them names. But I still really miss my other fish. So this is just a 'don't forget' journal to myself, although I know I won't forget them. If you managed to read all this, you're either very bored and I'm sorry, or you're an awesome person and ilu <333333
